subtitles

hey everyone!

i need help with subtitles. I downloaded movies (avi) from kazaa without subtitles. then i downloaded subtitles files (http://www.divxsubtitles.net/) in my language and I want the final result to be a movie with subtitles. my question is: how do i do that? should I put the subtitles first in the avi file and then convert it to mpg using TMPGEnc, or should I add them in VirtualDub, or somewhere else?

and what software do i use to put the subtitles in the movie?
