Will these 2 layer DVD's be available as DVD-R/RW media and then will a drive like this be able to write both layers? I guess it can read them so perhaps it can write both layers.
Will the Sony DRU500a drive be able to write dual layer DVD's?

Maxell Delivers High Capacity 9.4 GB DVD-R Media
2002--Maxell Corporation of America, the technology and marketing leader in premium recordable media products, today extended the industry's broadest line of recordable DVD media with the introduction of new high-capacity 9.4 GB DVD-R discs for general use. The new double-sided DVD-R discs are ideal for jukebox applications, enabling users to double the storage capacity of most optical jukeboxes without any new hardware investment. Each 9.4 GB disc can store up to 240 minutes of digital video or more than 130 hours of MP3 audio.
Maxell's 9.4 GB DVD-R media is write-compatible with DVD-R/RW drives and recorders. Once recorded the media can be read by a wide range of DVD devices, including all recordable DVD drive formats, as well as DVD-ROM, DVD Video and DVD Audio players.
"The insatiable demand for increased data storage capacity and digital entertainment content have combined to make recordable DVD the format of choice for a wide range of applications," said Peter Brinkman, vice president of marketing at Maxell. "As has always been the norm at Maxell, we intend to be first to market with products that meet our customers' media demands today, while developing for the next generation to come. Our new high-capacity discs give DVD-R technology an immediate capacity boost to meet the increasing demands of storage-intensive digital media applications."
Maxell's new 9.4 GB DVD-R discs are available as a single piece in jewel case or in 50 piece spindles. Anticipated end user pricing will be $10.

To Tweety Pie
You've misinterpreted flip69's question - which was about burning SINGLE-SIDED, DOUBLE-LAYERED DVDs, not DOUBLE SIDED SINGLE LAYERED DVDs (which, by the way, have existed for quite some time now...
So, although I (just as every other mortal) "could be wrong" - not this time ;>}Comment
