Trying to burn and make work, 4 VOB's

Ok, I have a movie I purchased and I want to break it down and back it up. I have DVD Complete, it came w/ my Dazzle HollyWood DVD DV Bridge. I don't care about all the the extra's, just want the movie to play, when I put it in the player. I mean, I don't even need the menu's or anything. Should be simple, but yet I can't get it to work.

I have the four main Vob's ripped and ready. It's apparent, DVD Complete cannot read Vob files. I'm not sure why, b/c isn't Vob's the same as Mpeg 2. I mean, I have been reading, lots of it, and I know I read that DVD uses the MPEG 2 format.

Anyways, I know I'm going to have to convert my Vob's to something, but thats where I'm stuck. The DVD Complete can only recongize the follwoing formats: m2v, mpg, m1v, mp2, mpv, AVI. So, it's clear, I have to convert to one of them formats. Why exactly can you not just use the default Vob's? I read the DVD Conversion guide, and SVCD looked like a good choice, but then I continued reading, only to find out it's for CD's only. I don't want to burn to a CD. I don't want to compress it that much. I have a Pioneer DVD burner, I want to burn to DVD, w/ the best quality that's available. The four Vob's currently only equal to 3.24 GBs, which works out fine and leaves me some space. I tried making some IFO files using IfoEdit, but when I tried to record the VIDEO_TS folder to my blank DVD, it gave me a error, so I know the IFO's are not valid.

I never dreamed DVD's could be this complicated.

Anyone have any thoughts, or would like sharing some idea's w/ me?

    Sincerely,
    Mike

      Thanks for the reply...

I used Smart Ripper, selected files on the left hand side, and chose the four main VOB's that contained the main movie that I needed. I didn't care about anythig else, I'm starting simple and gonna work my way up.

I can play the ripped VOB's in PowerDVD, individually, w/ no problems, so I know their no corrupted or anything.

      Thanks again for taking interest...

      Sincerely,
      Mike

I'd suggest that you click on the link to DVD Digest at the top of this page - and read some of the excellent tutorials...

          this is pretty easy way
          rename your vobs in order
          VTS_01_1.VOB
          VTS_01_2.VOB
          VTS_01_3.VOB
open a new window in ifo edit choose "create ifo's"
subs will probably play screwy by default but could strip out
          or turn off once playing
