Doble sided discs

Will those double sided single layer dvrs work on a pioneer A04 model when it only conforms to 1.1 general standards, and 2.0 is supposedly required, or will it possibly damage the drive? also does the A04 model have 2 pickup heads so you dont have to change the dvd sides? using firmware 1.40 dunno if that matters.
