mpeg --> DVD, sound out of synch!

I have an mpeg2 file that I want to convert and burn to DVD. I'm using IfoEdit version 95. As far as I understand (from multiple authoring guides), I need to:

    1. Demux the mpeg to a video and audio stream
    2. In IfoEdit, select DVD Author and select the separated streams.
    3. The process re-mux's the streams and creates the .VOB files.

Upon checking the .VOB files, I find that the sound is out of synch anywhere from 2 - 5 seconds.

Any ideas why this is happening and how I can resynch it properly?

Or can anyone suggest a better way to do this? I'm not opposed to spending a few dollars for the right program (as long as the program doesn't take hours to convert / reencode). I have MyDVD, Womble, RecordNow Max, Nero

    Thanks for shedding any light.

I'm assuming that you have an ac3 format sound. If so you can try to shift an audio track left or right to fit your needs. For that purpose you can use HeadAC3he - it's free. Open audio track, and choose source as a target format. then you can see the field "delay" there. you can play with this value to achieve better results. negative value shifts track left, positive - right. The program just fixes headers, so it doesn't re-encode anything, hence works fast.
