mpeg --> DVD, no re-encoding?

Hi all,

Is it possible to put *.mpg files directly onto a DVD, i.e. no re-encoding to .vob and still have the DVD player play it? I've read a few posts in other forums that sounded like that was what they were doing. I couldn't find the original posts to reply and ask them.

for what purpose do you need it? on a dvd-video disk data is stored in vob files. Vob files are modified versions of mpg files (mpeg system stream). The difference between mpg and vob files is that vob files contain some control data needed for dvd player. mpg files do not suit to dvd-authoring process. dvd-authoring programs require separately mpeg video stream (m2v etc) and audio stream - the programm will multiplex them. However, Unlead Movie Factory can handle mpg files - so you can try it. One warning: there are only a few c o r r e c t programs for dvd authoring - the leader is Sonic Scenarist. Other programs do not provide 100% compatibility with dvd set top players.
