I'm attempting to burn my first DVD project and I'm running into some problems. I capture DV files through Pinnacle Studio 8 Deluxe, either via Firewire or "S" video. Some of my video originated as 640 x 480, even though copied to DV format before encoding. Once I have the DV files on my hard drive, I have no problem using the Pinnacle software to burn a DVD. However, even at the highest quality settings, the DVD doesn't look much better than a VHS tape. So, I have re-encoded the DV to MPEG2 in TMPGEnc, (sometimes passing through VirtualDub for processing, first). I can generate a very clean looking MPEG2 file this way.
However, when attempting to burn a DVD using either Nero Burn or SONY's NeoDVD software, I keep generating error messages stating that the files are incorrect formats. I believe that "vob" files are desired, but my TMPGEnc MPEGs are called ".mpg" and not ".vob".
I can create either a single "system" video+audio, or separate "ES" "wav" audio and "mpg" video files.
Do DVD files have to be 720 x 480 instead of 640 x 480?
Can I create chapters from a single video file, or do I need to break it into pieces before encoding, then enter those pieces separately?
Any advide on these mattes would be greatly appreciated.
