    Feedback on Sonic DVDit SE

Anyone with feedback regarding this product? I am hesitant to drop $200 without seeing at least a review.

I have Sonic MyDVD v. 3.51 and it is A) very lacking, in functionality and B) very buggy

I mostly plan on authoring home movies of my kids (I have a Sony PC101 camera which supports widescreen format) but also plan on authoring some training DVDs.

Anyone with feedback or a suggestion on a better product under $300?

    Thanks,

    Ernie

Also, forgot to add... Does anyone have any links to reviews of the DVDit product?

Well, I use Sonic DVDit PE, and I hate it.

It was a terrible waste of money. But then all the DVD authoring software I've seen so far is pretty awful.

I bought it because it had AC3 audio, which gave me more space for video and I could fit more on a disk. But they have a bug in their multiplexing of AC3 audio that makes DVDs authored by them not play properly on my Apex player. They continually denied it was their bug until I sent them two sample DVDs to prove it. Since them silence from them.

In the Sonic forums I have yet to see them address and fix any bug the users complain of. These days they just say, "wait for DVDit 5.0 which will fix everythiing." Want to bet you will have to pay a lot to upgrade to it?

To be fair there are clearly many people in the forum who have no trouble burning DVDs with DVDit that play fine in their players. I however cannot recommend it at all.

Thanks for the information. Is there a product that you prefer?

I can't say I'm happy with any of them. I author menus and get AC3 audio from DVDit PE, and then I author the movie VOBs in IfoEdit (which has a poor interface but makes ok VOBs) then
I combine the menus and movie VOBs, use IfoEdit to clean up some other problems and burn with either Nero or PrimoDVD.

The process is unnecessarily long and complex and I am NOT happy with it, but it works.
