DVD mpeg audio problem in importing

The mpg2 or vob files that I have ripped have audio that is AC-3 or DolbyDigital2.
These files will not import (or I should say the audio doesn't import) into any of the DVD authoring or Editing software that I have tried including MyDVD,DVDComplete,PowerDirectorPro or Ulead Video Studio 7.
The files that have PCM audio work fine.
Also all of the files play ok in either Windows Media Player or PowerDVD.

    1) Is there any software recommendations to solve this problem or is this something more basic?

To convert .AC3 files to .WAV format:

**IMPORTANT - VirtualDub v.1.4AC3 is a specific MODIFIED version of VirtualDub!

Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub v1.4C-AC3, set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying" and select (under "File") "Save WAV" - and save as .AC3 (IMPERATIVE to save as .AC3!).

Despite the fact that .AC3 file extracted using VDub-AC3 doesn't play properly, PX3AC3Converter (or BeSweet) will do a perfect job of converting it to .WAV format.

(As a simpler alternative, which MAY work properly with individual .VOBs, load the .VOB into MPEGMediator and select "Extract audio to .WAV" from the "Start" dropdown menu)
