Simple Question from a Newbie who needs alot of help.

This is probably a really stupid question but please forgive me, I'm a newbie. I want to know if I can make a DVD with only a CDR Drive, no DVD player on my PC. I guess I would have to buy a few DVD's and then some software. Is this correct?
I appreciate all the help you can give.

no, this simply cannot be done without a dvd burner...

since dvd's have 9 tracks, and cd's only have 1, you couldn't even read a dvd in your cdrw drive. but you can turn a divx movie into a VCD which is like a dvd in a cd. if you want to do that, use tmpgenc to encode and nero to burn.

you're welcome . If you want to make a vcd, go to www.dvdrhelp.com
and look around there. I find it to be very useful.

I want to transfer my videos from my camcorder. Will VCD be the same quality as the original or will there be any degredation in quality? I have seen some VCDs so I suspect there will be. Am I correct?

Thanks alot for all your help.

you will probably lose quality if you have long videos (50+ minutes)

you can increase the bitrate or resolution if you have a short video and want to maximize quality to get the most out of your cd.
