You will have to convert your vhs movies with encoder into mpeg 2 format (you can use TMPG, Procoder etc) and then you will need authoring software (e.g. scenarist) to assemble your video and audio and make an image of dvd. Then a dvd burning program, such as Nero.

Yes you will need a video capture card running from your TV to your computer

              juanchankein,

One greatly overlooked fact about VHS to DVD is how much time it takes to complete the process. Be prepared to spend at least 6-7 hours maybe more from start to finish. I'm just a beginner at this video stuff and was amazed how time consuming making a DVD could be. There is of course, Capturing the VHS, Editing, Rendering, Muxing, De-muxing, Transcoding, Creating Video File, Creating Audio File and Burning the DVD.

I sometimes let my computer process my project overnight. I always hope that there wasn't a system crash or a power failure. Sometimes I go through the whole process just to find lip sync problems. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from learning this wonderful technology but, what you see printed on the vendor's product box is almost always "BS".

I hope others who read this post will comment on their Video processing experiences. I hope someone much more knowledgeable than I says "Oldbie", you're full of crap. It only takes 4 hours to make a high quality DVD from a 2 hour VHS tape. Boy do I want to learn how that's done. We'll see...

              Thanks,

              Oldbie but, Newbie

The time factor is nothing, People encode DivX everyday. It takes just about the same time. What would be the differnce besides different steps to take? None.
