Can someone help me with my stuttering video?

When I burn DVDs, I get a stuttering/jitter/ratchetting effect with movement, especially panning. This first happened with video captured with several capture devices I tried. I then bought a Panasonic HS2 video recorder which produces perfectly clear and smooth video.

I recently copied video from the HS2 to my computer, then demuxed the VOBs and reauthored the video. I did this so that I could build menus of my own design which is not possible with the HS2.

When I do this I get the same jitter that I got with the video captured before.

If I simply copy the VOB files from the HS2, they play perfectly but don't connect properly with my new menus.

When I play the newly authored video on my computer, it look good but when I play it on my DVD player the jitter is obvious.

Anybody have any idea what causes this or what I can do about it?

Well, for anyone who reads the above post, I got an answer on the Doom forum. For display on a regular TV with interlaced display, video can be set with the first or second field shown first. Somehow this got switched. Once I learned this, I reauthored setting TFF (Top Field First) on. The resulting video was perfect.

The jittery video looked fine on the computer because the display is progressive.

I hope this helps anyone else with this problem.
