Supposed former DVD-R recording with CD-RW drive Question

First of all, Hi to all, it's my first msg!!!

And maybe a bit triky one...

I've been surfing around in astalavista, and got face to face with a pop up ad... One about recording DVD-R's with ordinary CD-RW drives! It proposes a software who does that, showing off a bit, like "Abshaper" ads on tv... (!)
But it got me thinking, can it be possible? i've seen softs do a lot, like a plugin for winamp, which blinks keyboard lights to the sound of MP3...

So, anyone knows about this sorcerer's stone?

"One about recording DVD-R's with ordinary CD-RW drives!"

A CD burner ("CD-RW Drive) is NOT physically capable of reading a DVD, DVD-R, DVD+, or any other format of DVD.

If you pursued that advert any further, you'd undoubtedly find out that it's about using "ripping" and "conversion" software to create compressed files, which can then be burned to a CD-R.

      yeah he is right

dont even think about it, dvds are accually cds now dont get it twisted, but cd players cannot read them because the data bits are so small and close together- giving you the increased space, so if it cant read it how can it write it? dvd and cd playeds dont even use the same type of laser
