    Copying VHS to CD

I need a good software program, easy to use to copy VHS tape to a CD. I have several capturing devices. Dazzle 150 is one and I have Windows XP as an operating system. Before up grading to XP I used Movie Star with the dazzle and had no problems, now to record the sound I had to connect to my sound card, and most of the time I have a problem with the program freezing up on me.

There are plenty freeware programs to do this for avi, non for mpeg 2. For mpeg 1 and mpeg 4 there are solutions.

First, choose what you wish? Mpeg 2 or avi?

Direct Mpeg 2 is fast, but the quality ain't good if you don't use higher bitrates. So you might gain time, but you loose space. A good program to record realtime mpeg 2 is power vcr 2, from cyberlink (power DVD authors). But first see if your card is compatible with this program

If you want to capture to avi, then you have 3 good freeware solutions.
Virtualdub, virtual vcr and freevcr. The first is the best, the second is the best alternative if you use win xp / 2000 and the first fails (no good vfm drivers, a well know Asus issue for example...). Freevcr is French....
An excellent non freeware solution is iuVCR.
