2 hours movie on one DVD?

    Hi,
I'm trying to capture some home made videos from my Hi8 camcorder so I can burn them on DVD-R (Pioneer A05).
I've watched some DVD movies that are almost 2 hours on a single layer commercial DVD.
I can burn one hour on a DVD-R with perfect quality but as soon as I change the settings so I can fit more on it, the quality gets very bad.
My question is: How can I burn two hours on one DVD-R without getting crappy quality?
    What program to use?

    Thanx.

Encode your video at the maximum bitrate i.e. 9800000. After you have encoded the video, compile it - creating vob+ifo files. Once you have created those files you can shrink them to one DVD-R by using either DVD2ONE or DVDShrink or any other shrinking software that you can find.

      Hi _Mutant_,

"Encode your video at the maximum bitrate i.e. 9800000"
Do I do this when I'm capturing?
If not what do I use to encode the video.
Now, once I did all this, wouldn't I lose the video quality by using DVD2ONE or DVDShrink?

      Thanx again.

I am not sure how you encode the video - if you do that "on the fly" then your video quality is gonna look crap anyhow. Best way to get the highest possible quality is to capture the material first and then encode it by a standalone software like Tmpgenc. Once you have done that author it with IFOedit and then shrink it down. The quality of shrink will depend a lot on the source material. I encode 1h30m home videos and the quality is perfect - can't notice any blocking.
