    DivX ---> DVD with TMPGenc [Problem]

    Hello,

    I have a serious problem with converting DivX encoded AVI's to DVD format with TMPGenc. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it true that TMPGenc is supposed to be at least one of the most efficient converters, right? I have AMD Athlon XP+ 1,4GHz with 512 ram and it takes ~20 hours to convert a 1h30min film to DVD format. That sounds like way too long time for me...

    I live in Finland so the standard here is PAL. I read another post regarding to NTSC settings - they were no use for me...

    If anyone could help, I would be very pleased.

      Under TMPGEnc, you should press the "Load" radio button and locate and select the "DVD (PAL) -MPEG2 720x576.MCF" template.

      With the system you've described, I'd guess it might take up to 5 hours...


      (By the way, TMPGEnc's "claim to fame" is quality, not speed)

          ABout 8 or 9 hours is quite common also, depending ont he length of the movie of course. The LOTR Fellowship took me 10 hours to encode to mpeg2 and 25mins to create a VOB structure

              another possibility to encode to dvd compliant mpeg2 streams
              is the CINEMA CRAFT ENCODER.

              it is an expensive tool.... not so comfortable to use as Tmpeg
              but of vast speed and quality!!!

              it is also not capable of resizing your divx movies to the right DVD compliant aspect ratio but this you can accomplish with
              an avisynth script. If you are not sure on how to do this give fitcd a try to create one.

                      I have new question. I am converting family videos to MPEG 2 for DVD archival and editing. I would like to compress everything to MPEG 4 (Divx or Xvid) to store the raw files for long term. However, eventually I want to convert back to DVD so that I can send them to various family members for use on a stand alone player.

                      What software do I need to compress to Divx and then convert back to MPEG 2 for DVD authoring? I have TMPGEnc, but I have not been successful at converting an Xvid or Divx format back to MPEG 2. Help anyone?

                              To convert to DivX - install DivX 5.1, and use DVDx (free) to open your mpg file and convert to DivX AVI (use 2 pass for better quality)
