AVI import quality

Hello all, great forum.

I have some Hi8 tapes that I want to archive into digital format using the ver highest quality possible.

I am using a Canon Hi8 camera, feeding the signal ina digital Canon Camcorder (Z60) which will actually convert the analog signal to digital in a "pass through" mode.

Usually I will use Windows MovieMaker2 with my digital tapes and let MM greate the DV-AVI file (assuming that is the best quality).

However that wont work with my setuo because to do the "pass through" the Canon Camcorder (Z60) must have the tape removed... this prevents MM from capturing anything because it insists that a tape be present in the camcorder.

Enter ULead VideoStudio 6. This program will do the job but now my question. Will the DV-AVI I get from the Camcorder this way be just as good as MM? Is their any difference between software in the quality of the DV-AVI captured or is DV-AVI just DV-AVI no matter what software is doing the work?

Ulead VideoStudio capture .AVI files from your camcorder better than MM.
Different software will make different quality in capturing movie files (it depends on the resolutions when you setup the program to capture, such as 720x480, 704x480, etc...) Suppose the setting is the same between all of the sofware you use, I believe Ulead VideoStudio will give you the best resolution and quality.

Try using the Video Capture feature of VirtualDub and using a lossless codec like Hyuff or something similar... can't remember the real name... d@mn.
