No one has proposed a method - or even instructions for a single *pair* of films - for merging two navigation menus
So you surfing over here now.
The only way I think this could be done with a tool today is if the authoring tool's control information, specific to the authoring tool, could be imported back into the authoring tool and have a new root menu structure defined that would link to the two original roots.
I've been spending the past week or so delving into the authoring and editing tools. OpenDVD may be the way to get this done but it seems new and it would be rare/non-existent for a commercial DVD release to have the OpenDVD info stored on the DVD. Personally, I don't recollect seeing such stuff. Of course, only an insane DVD house would release a commercial DVD with such info anyway.
Following quote is from Sonic site. Did some research - seems Sonic is the only one to adopt the "standard" so far.
OpenDVD™ – the new standard for interchanging finished DVD discs that can be opened and re-edited across different applications. DVD Producer can both write and read OpenDVD compliant titles saving you time and money on project revision. OpenDVD enables your company to make changes to your client’s projects by simply re-opening the project from the finished disc, making the requested changes, and then re-burning.Comment

Yes - even Sonics MyDVD can do that ! You're right though, no company will release DVDs with that information on it.
The Registers used in one DVD will more likley than not conflict horribly with the other DVD and that leaves complete re-authoring as the only alternative.
The value of such knowledge would be limited because each pair of DVDs would need individual attention - no global method possible - and take hours and hours of work, mapping the commands, translating VMG commands into VTS Menus and making new global VMG commands etc. etc. etc.
For now its possible to use original menu VOBs in DVD Lab to make up parts of the original menus and follow my guides over at Doom9 for multiple VTS and Audio.
Have a go with that to gain some experience!Comment

I did a small test using DVD Producer (Sonic) that supports OpenDVD. If you look at what gets produced and burned is an extra directory named OpenDVD. In that directory is contained the control info that Sonic uses to manage the creation of the DVD. Menus, navigation, chapter marks, etc. I opened up the .dvd file that was stored on the DVD. It opened just as if I was still in edit mode.
So, you could import two sets of these from two different DVD , create a root menu over both of the imported ones, and build a new DVD image that would effectively combine two separate discs as originally requested in the post.
I did not check to see what happens when you import a .dvd file that has assets with the same name. I'm sure it can detect the dups and prompt the user to rerename the dups.
Since the OpenDVD standard basically is the meta data and scripting language that Sonic uses to support their authoring products. it's no wonder that it never caught on. I never found a reference to any open standards working group that defined or supported it. No wonder it never caught on by anyone else.
The following link is to the Sonic white paper on OpenDVD.
There is another standards called MPV that is supported by OSTA.ORG, an open group. This one has a better chance of making it and seems to have the same goal as OpenDVD.
In any case, until then, as you earlier stated - this is one thing that is beyond anything that is possible within the current DVD publishing standard. And it would be a hella of a manual job on more complex and sophisticated DVDs. I'm sure you and 2COOL can figure it out. I'm done.Comment

Hi Maa,
Your posts suggest you've possible already been down the avenue i was thinking of....
Am I wasting my time....
Personnally i'm happy with one menu calling three films, subs, and directors comments.
I just thought it would be nice to have the proper menu/chapter picking...Comment

Hi maaa,
I managed to look at your multi-audio guides on doom9.
(i have to logout to view as i still have no access even after 2 emails!!! - maybe you can moan for me? )
Anyway - very good. Did you ever sort out the resume with mult-films.
Could you tell 2 cool from me that tmpeg dvd author allows you to keep your subs.
The way i do it is import the title sets created with ifoedit into dvd author.
Create the disc - tmpeg has a feature/bug whereby it saves all the streams so the vobs are the same size
Rename and copy the original vobs and ifos from the titlesets ONLY (not video_ts.cob/ifo/bup).
Add a post command to resume/call menu for each set. Add a precommand to turn subs off, past original colours into each ifo.
when all saved(2 mins work) open up the first ifo and do a get vts sectors update thingy.
That's it - done. Multi film/multi audio/multi subs. Minimal work.
This is also why i was looking at concatinating menu vobs into one big one.....Comment

DVD2one does keep menu structure intact, also no option ?
Otherwise use a existing guide for this, by searching on :
www.dvdrhelp.com ...... it has been done already....i guess...Thanks,

The latest (v.1.30) provides multiple TITLE (NOT multiple DVD) capability and a minimal EXPERIMENTAL navigation system for a multiple TITLE DVD.
It does NOT allow you to retain original menus - nor can you use it to create a true menu...Comment
