UltimateTV to DVD

Hi,
I'd like to capture the digital video I have recorded on my UltimateTV to a DVD and keep the quality and the DD 5.1.

I have an ATI Radeon AIW 8500 and a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 EX so I can capture the video via S-Video and capture the Audio via fiber directly into the sound card.

My question is, What format should I capture it in? AVI, MPEG2 or use ATI's .vcr files (they claim you can capture DVD quality)

I also wish to know once I've got the video, how to convert it to DVD.

Well, after doing some reading, I suppose I should capture it to .AVI format and use TMPGenc to get it to DVD.

So any special things I need to know to get the 5.1 going?

Nooooooo....

If you have the ability to capture as MPEG-2 plus .AC3 (5.1), by all means do so! If you are in the NTSC world (North America), capture at a resolution of 720x480, if PAL (Europe) use 720x576.

Then use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc) to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)


**If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress


If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
(As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

Thank you lots! I'm going to get started on it this week. As with anything, it takes some reading to do things right. I appreciate your post and will let you know how it goes.

Hopefully I can get the capturing part right so I can get the AC3 layed down to the hard drive. We'll see.
