A little help with DVD to DVD-R

Is there anyone who can give me a little help with DVD to DVD-R. I have successfully ripped a DVD that is under 4.7 with SmartRipper and I understand I must edit the .ifo files with IFOEDIT, which I have. Maybe I edited these files wrong, because when I burnt the DVD-R with Nero, it didnt work in my stand alone, but worked in my computer DVD drive. Is there any help that anyone can give me? I would greatly appreciate it. I am very close. I just need to know exactly what editing to the .ifo's needs to be done. I also took the DVD-R I burnt to Best Buy and none of their players would play it, so I don't think it is my player. Thanks again for the help.

      Thanks

Thanks a lot. Hopefully that will work for me. If not, I will PE you and maybe you could help me out some more. Also, does it matter if I burn it on a DVD-RW? I am doing this so that I can learn how to do it and experiment without wasting a lot of money.

        DVD-RW

No, DVD-RW will work fine, as long as your standalone can read that format.

Once its done try and if it works, do the same with a dvd-r and away you go.

I'm having trouble building a DVD image that can auto-start as well. I used SmartRipper to extract the stream from a DVD that I want which turns out to be 3.2 GB or so:

          01/24/2002 09:55p 3,618,818,048 vts_02_1.vob
          07/04/2001 11:34p 79,872 vts_02_0.ifo

I then used IFOEdit as you described and I got a new set of files in my VIDEO_TS dir:

          01/26/2002 11:21a 1,073,739,776 VTS_01_1.VOB
          01/26/2002 11:22a 1,073,739,776 VTS_01_2.VOB
          01/26/2002 11:24a 1,073,739,776 VTS_01_3.VOB
          01/26/2002 11:24a 262,215,680 VTS_01_4.VOB
          01/26/2002 11:28a 6,144 VIDEO_TS.IFO
          01/26/2002 11:28a 6,144 VIDEO_TS.BUP
          01/26/2002 11:27a 59,392 VTS_01_0.IFO
          01/26/2002 11:27a 59,392 VTS_01_0.BUP

I made sure to use Get VTS Sectors and save the VIDEO_TS.IFO file last.

When I drag this onto DVDStarter (or burn a DVD) it doesn't launch. I can soft-launch it by selecting the .VOBs, but clearly I want to put this into my settop box.

I've tried a bunch of combos, but to no avail. Is there anything that I'm missing? I've read a bunch of procedures that pretty much talk through the same steps. Still no luck. Is the .IFO broken? What do the players try to do on startup?
