    reliable authoring software

I've tried authoring DVDs with Sonic ReelDVD and I've gotten extremely inconsistent results. Sometimes files will be missing, other times the video quality will be really low or the audio is out-of-sync. Can anyone suggest a decent authoring program that works well with MPEG-1 (or MPEG-2, I bought TMPGEnc, but would rather not have to convert if possible.) Thanks in advance.

are you by any chance capturing from satellite, cable or terrestrial digital? and,
what hardware are we talking about here, processor, capture card, memory?

The capture card I use is an Optibase MPEG MovieMaker 100S

      specs:
      1.4Ghz P4
      80GB HDD
      512MB memory

For some reason, I occasionally will get errors in the MPEG files themselves, but that's another problem altogether.

If all you want is to cut out commercials, make a menu and burn...I love TMPGenc DVD Author. If you want to give home videos the professional touch with titles, transitions and dubbed in music...may I suggest ULead Video Sudio7.
