2hr VHS to 1-DVD ??...last word on this

....(I hope) Can I get this nailed down? I want to capture (have ATI TV card) my 2 hour VHS tapes to one DVD. The mpeg2 file result is way too large. Therefore I have to shrink somehow. Dont know how to do that unless I can first change to .ifo's, .vbo's , blah..blah. I have programs to handle those files....DVDCopy , DVDShrink. Also TEMPGenc (free version)., DVD Decrypter, IFO Edit , DVDRipper (trial...does same as DVDCopy by InterVideo far as I know) Am I going to have to break down and buy something else ? And what would that be?

One set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) would be:

    1) If not already DVD-compliant, use "TMPGEnc" to convert the MPEG to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this (This step may not be necessary, if your MPEG-2 filies are already in DVD compliant format)

    2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)

**If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress

If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
(As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

    Let us know of your success ;>}

What software are you using to capture the video?

As you might to able to make a CUSTOM BITRATE capture,
by setting the bitrate lower than the average is for a
standard bitrate on a DVD (MPEG-2) like one can if using
      STUDIO 8/9 for capturing.

Meaning you'll fit more on a DVD and if you use MP2 audio
you fit even more footage onto a DVD.R

As the files will be OK for TMPGEnc DVD Author too,
there will be no need to encode it...

I just added signature info...suspect it will show from now on, but here it is for good measure. AthonXP2600-2Ghz...512mbRAM...
ATI Radeon 9000pro TV card w/analog capture. Dual 80g drives...
        HP300c DVD/CDwriter
Capture can be done with Showbiz, Movie-maker, Roxio<which I havent attempted to use yet.
When/where is mp2 audio an option?....TEMPgenc reduced one mpeg2 movie file I worked on, but then had no idea what to do with results....m2v and .wav. The two combined were less than 4gig, but two burn programs needed over 5GIG !! to burn. Why?
