As an update, it appears the problem was the software. After I figured that out, I went back to the TMPGenc software, because I knew they wouldn't put out a product that wouldn't work. I finally got it to work as well (I just needed to follow the directions more carefully and not be so creative with the menus). Thanks for your help anyway.
