perhaps this guide will help:
The Grandadmiral was here! -
You can fit about ten lord of the rings movies on one dvd/rw, but only if they are in these formats>>>mpeg1:asf:avi:and so on.
If your talking about a Lord of the rings dvd vob format, which I don't think is even out on dvd yet then it depends on the size of the dvd u r copying from, but u should b in LUCK as most dvd's are about 3gigs in size, that leaves u with 1+gigs left on your dvd/rw.
Hope that helpsComment

Hmmmmmmmm
I converted the movie from avi to mpg using TMPGEnc then using Ulead Movie Factory I made the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. The file was only 3.17 GB but when I reied to burn it with Nero it said there wasn't enough room on the disc. I was using a blank 4.7 GB DVD+RW disc. I noticed some DVD+RW disc say you can put 120 minutes worth of video on them. If the movie is 3 hours long but the file is small enough to fit on the disc should I be able to burn the whole movie on one disc?Comment

I think the problem you are getting is with U-lead "bumping up the biterate of the movie to a "standard" DVd rate which would be to high for a 4.7 disc.
I found the best way was to encode as Mpeg 2 with a biterate of 2500. Demux the mpeg then ctrate the DVD files with Reel-DVD. Then use Prassi to burn to a disc, it comes out around 3.7 gig and plays fine.
One point reel is very fussy about importing the Mpegs. Make sure it is 4:3 when encoding and the audio is 48htz.

hey Darth, i know a few ways to put that 3 hr big-ass LOTR on 1 DVD-5 (4.7gb) R, 1 is use the well known Freeware: DVD Shrink, or DVD Copy X sumthin like that. But i've tried so many and none have good quality after compressing that movie they r all chunky try using DVD Decrypter to remove protection and download Nero Vision Express in that there is a thing called Nero Recode
if u want more info just send an email to jeremypresnell@hotmail.com i check it every day!!Comment
