I am using TMPGEnc MPEG Encoder to convert my Mpeg files. However, when they are converted, I am finding there is some lag between the video & audio. Why would this happen when the original .avi file is perfect?

There could be many reasons, but you can correct the lag in the audio with TMPGEnc by doing the following:
In TMPGEnc, after you have loaded the mpeg file, click the "Setting" button at the bottom of the main dialog. Click on the "Advanced" tab and double-click on "Source Range". In that dialog at the bottom, there is an "Audio Gap Correct" window that will allow you to correct the audio by using a plus or minus value. -

I have seen the audio gap correct. How do you know what value to set? When I first saw that I thought you would be able to play the clip and then set the value to correct the lag. Obviously not the case. Dont tell me its trial & error.Comment

Synch problem
I ´ve seen the same problem with Rocky Horror Picture Show....only that the mpg file resulting from the avi works fine. When playing the mpg, the audio is fine.
But the resulting dvd has an unsynched audio, about 20 mins into the film....I tried to play the entire movie, and it seems that the audio gradually lags behind - getting worse by the end of the film....

I am capturing video from my Hi8 camera with Studio 7. The resultant .avi file is fine. I then use Studio 7 to convert it to Mpeg, and that works fine. It is only when I use TMPGEnc Mpeg encoder to convert it for burning onto a DVD that that lag kicks in. I just downloaded a program, WinAVI video converter, which converts .avi files to either Mpegs or straight to DVD files. The DVD files seem okay. Only problem I now have is if I convert 4 or 5 .avi files straight to DVD files, can I use a program that lets me burn them to DVD, but make chapters etc???Comment

Sorry Ormonde, maybe I didnt explain myself properly. I have used TMPGEnc DVD Author to make a DVD, using files that I had converted in TMPGEnc Mpeg Encoder. Because I was having problems with the lag, after converting larger Mpeg files, I downloaded WinAVI. This program converts .avi straight to DVD files (as in VOB and BUP files etc - the type you see in the Video TS part of a DVD) I tried to use TMPGEnc DVD Author with these files but it wouldnt work. I have got a half a dozen of .avi files that I want to put onto a DVD. If I use TMPGEnc Mpeg encoder I get the lag. If I convert the .avi file using WinAVI, straight to DVD files, what can I do with them then. Can I still make a DVD out of them, if so, how? Going back to TMPGEnc Mpeg encoder, with the audio gap correct, how do you know what value to put in?Comment
