Newbie question about DVD ripping

I have tried to rip a DVD-9 format DVD, in order to burn it on a standard DVD-R disc at 4.7 Gb.

The DVD contained Video_ts, Vts_01, Vts_02 and Vts_03 files in a complex chain, wheras Vts_03 is the main program. I keept:

All Video_ts files, all Vts_03 files and the Vts_01_0 and Vts_01_1 files, cause the menu and title screen where located there, and when I first tried to play the DVD-files without Vts_01_0 and Vts_01_1 files, the DVD player was going in loop and looking for something it couldn't find (Obviously the title and menu screen).
After I placed the Vts_01_0 and Vts_01_1 files along with the other files, then the DVD player was able to play it from the Harddisk, and it seemed to work well. All main program with title and menu screen was there, except the special features.

Then I tried to burn it, but something strange happened. The burning software asked me to insert a 7.8 Gb DVD, cause the contents were to large to fit on the current media (DVD-5 4.7 Gb).
That's very strange, cause the files is only 4.1 Gb after ripping. So it should fit well on the 4.7 DVD media. But the original DVD is 7.8 Gb, so maybe the size is reported in a IFO, VOB or BUP file, I don't know.

Do someone got an advice for me?

Use DVDDecrypter to rip the title to your HD:

After you rip to the HD use DVDShrink to reduce to the 4.3gig (DVD5):
