    Long Time? How long!

Having look over a few programs and guides, I find a question niggling in the back of my head.

When someone say's "then sit back and wait a long time." How long are they saying??

I know, everybodies Computer is different, HD speeds, Ram Quantity, CPU and Motherboards make a difference.

But Come on, There's got to be a benchmark out there.

For example, My system spec's are:
    Thunderbird 1.4GHz, Soltek 75KAV M/Brd, 256M PC133 SDRam, Simple 8Mb AGP, Western Digital 40Gb 7200rpm Hard Drive.
    DVD-Rom and 16x10x40 BTX CDR/RW.

For me to Rip, Convert, and put to CDR for a 90Min Movie takes on average 4.5 Hrs.

    Procedure as follows:
    Smartrip to Empty Partition.
    DVD2AVI - Save Project.
TMPG 2.01, and VCD Template (Pal or NTSC Depending on source).
    Finally Nero 5.5.7.2.

    And That's it.

    Question.

    How long is "Long Time"

that must be nice...i have a compaq presario 7470..which has onboard vid and audio and an amdk-6 lol with a 16 gig 5400 rpmhdd and 192 sdram
i use the exact same programs you do and in the exact same way.
it takes 10 minutes to rip
a couple minutes to save project and 30+ hours to encode.
i am building a system that has a
asus a7v-333 with onboard raid 0
amd athlon 1700 ( cant afford 1800 or above)
    1 gig ddr ram
3 ibm 40 gig 7200 rpm hdd.. 2 run on raid
am looking at vid/cap cards and cant decide
thinking of ati radeon 8500dv but i get mixed reviews from all over the net and no one seems to like ati.
it must be nice to do it in 4 hours.

      long time

Your #'s are about right. I have a 1.4, Asus A7M, 512 DDR (seems to be a sweetspot),1 WD 40 7200, 1 WD 60 7200, ATI all in wonder for analog capture. I tried to install more ram, but doesnt seem to help.
I ended up getting a bare comp 1.2 512 DDR ,1 drive caddy for swapping files quickly. Win me and min. running in backround. My drives are on different ide ports to prevent bottlenecking. I use this one to perform all the time consuming tasks.
I will be reading more to get better Ideas.
