Problem with burning DVDs

I am a newbie at all this video editing stuff and I want to know how to fix this problem.

I have got THe Shining, Twilihght Zone Vol 1 and VOl 2, American movie.

I try to import these into Windows Movie Maker, but when i go tothe timeline, it comes up with that MS error "SEND ERROR REPORT" BULL*S***** that shuts down the program and crashes it.

I try importing them into Adobe premiere and vol1 works but Vol 2 just pauses and doesnt import.

Then i tried it with Pinnacle studio Plus 9.3 and it sezer "Twilightzone (whatever).avi could not be opened. Studio does not support this MPEG4 Video file format"

So then i tried opening it with PowerProducer and all the files import, however, in that program it imports properly but when i click on Vol 1 the program crashes and comes UP WITH MS'S "SEND ERROR REPORT" bullS************. Well I avoided clicking on it but the problem is the Vol 1 is one file and I need to split it up into four episodes (chapters) and I cant do this. So then I go to menu and create a menu, and it shows up, but when I try and edit the layout it goes MS'S BULLS************** "SEND ERROR REPORT". So help me here please

My computer is a AMD2600+XPPROCESSOR_------512MBRAMDDR-----120GBHARDDRIVE (60GB*FREESPACE)

ok, i have tried it with my home movies and get the same problem,

Maybe your "home movies" are corrupt or fakes...

no, because when I open them in MPlayer, Windows Media player and VLC media player, they can play!

What type of editing are you desirous of doing?

splitting segments of the movie into chapters/tracks, stuff like hat

One set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) would be:

1) Use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this

2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)


**If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress


If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
(As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

Well the thing is, i dont think its a problem with the program I am using. I can simply not import the file into ANYTHING. Adobe Premiere, Nero, B's Recorder, Windows Movie Maker, Pinnacle STudio 9, Powerproducer all comes up with teh error message of "SEND ERROR REPORT" whenever i import them into it. But the thing is, it plays fine on Mplayer, VLC media player, WMP.... WTF?

it could be a codec problem perhaps? im using an Nvidia Gforce MX 4000 video card if that helps

1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub (PLEASE don't show the filename)

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

There's at least a couple of numbers there that don't tally with DVD compatibility - video frame size and audio sampling rate. I think that's going to need some serious conversion to make it go in a standalone DVD.
For a start, you might find fddshow filter helps.

So is it possible to have this file and another on DVD? As is, the files I want are able to fit on DVDd, so if converted would they be able to fit on DVD?

You have to have a DivX v.5.xxx codec installed on your system...

I have installed the DivX codec, and had installed it before i had this problem.

anyway, i think i've figured out what is wrong - and the problem is pretty basic

Those movies werent encoded for burning onto dvd, therefore they needed to be converted. Simple as that - setarip, I will try using TMPGenc, as this should work.
