DVD Authoring Recommendations

Hi Everybody,
I was wondering if any body could recommend some decent software which will allow me edit to VOB files or DVD's in general.

I got a DVD Recorder for X-Mas which I will mostly be using to convert my VHS tapes to DVD. I would then like to take the DVD and edit it on my PC.

I already have MYDVD but I don't think that's exactly what I'm looking for.

Use DVD Decrypter to first "rip" (remove copy protection and then copy) to your hard drive.

You can then use "TMPGEnc DVD Author", "DVDLab", or DVD Shrink, for simple editing.

("TMPGEnc DVD Author" and "DVDLab" can each also be used to create menus and chapters, if need be)

Thanks Setarip. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just to cut a few seconds of video here and there.

Does DVD Decrypter convert them to VOB files too?

No...

One set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) would be:

1) If not already DVD-compliant, use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the MPEG (or .AVI) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this (This step may not be necessary, if your MPEG-2 filies are already in DVD compliant format)

2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)


**If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress


If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
(As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

The DVD Recorder creates them as .vob files. As I said above all I wanna do is crop a few seconds of film here and there and add a little menu. They are only for myself so I'm not really worried what the menus look like.

Then why ask if DVD Decrypter will CONVERT them to .VOB files?
DVD Decrypter, in "File" mode, will RETAIN the DVD structure (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs)

Then "TMPGEnc DVD Author" should serve your purpose...
