Editing Recording from a DVD Recorder

I own a govideo dvd recorder and I'd like to know how to go about editing the tv programs that I record with it. I want to remove the commercials. The recorder creates a video_rm folder, which contains bup, ifo and dat files. It also creates a video_ts folder, which contains bup, ifo and vob files. I tried using TMPeg author, but I didn't get very far. I loaded one of those files, but nothing happened when I pressed play. Which software would be best for this type of editing? Which of the above-mentioned files need to be loaded into the software in order for editing to occur? Which of these files contain the audio, id separate from the video? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if things are different on a DVD recorder but ...

I think you'll find that the VOB files contained in video_ts folder actually contain everything ...

I tried to use TMPEG Author again, but when I try open a new project and point it to my video_ts folder, nothing happens. No files are transferred. Any experienced TMPEG Author users out there?

If I were you, I would transfer my DVD files (the ones in VIDEO_TS) on my hard drive with decrypter. Then I would try to import them into TMPGenc DVD Author. You might have a problem because your sound is probably in AC3 and unless you have the plugin, I'm not sure TMPGenc DVD Author will let you author.
        A couple PgcEdit guides
MenuShrink can shrink your menus to 5-10% of their original size.

          Hi espinosa

Start with downloading all the video_ts folder on your HD
Then if you want dvdshrink can help you in cutting avay all the parts you do not need (use reauthor mode).
Once finished backup on your HD the resulting DVD.
Now start tmpegenc dvd author and chose open dvd. Open it from HD and you will have all the files to load on the screen.
As an alternative you can use only tmpeg also for the cutting.

          bye

I use DVD ram to record TV programmes, then copy the BUP, IFO and VRO ( VOB ) files to HD. Open tmpegenc, create new project, add file, double click VRO ( VOB ) file, go to Chapter Cut Edit, click set as start frame, play until you get to the beginning of the prog and set end frame. cut and you loose any crud recorded before the prog. play until you get to the beginning of the adverts and set start frame. play to the end of the ads and set end frame, cut and they go. repeat as required for all ads. At end of prog, set start frame, play till the end of your recording, set end frame and cut. click OK, go to output tab, set where you want to save file and away you go. It will create Audio_TS and Video_TS files which you can then record using Nero. Do this all the time, never had a prob yet!
