Huge Mpeg file

I recently recorded a TV marathon using my Hauppage PVR-250. Unfortunately I left it going over the weekend and recorded a 112GB file. I've been looking for an mpeg editor to cut it up remove commercials and author to DVD. I can't find anything that will even recognize this big of a file. Any advice would be appreciated.

What editors have you tried?

VideoRedo and Womble MPEG-VCR are both well-behaved, but I haven't tried them with an mpeg that large.

I have tried VideoReDo and Womble, both would only recognize a small portion of the file stoping at the same end frame interestingly enough.
I have tried just about every editor I could find that was free or offered a demo. I would be glad to pay for anything that will work with this size file but everything I've tried so far has either choked on it (locked up) or only recognizes a small portion of the file.

I tried Cuttermaran but it will not recognize the file type (.mpg), only recognizes .mpv .m1v or .m2v? Not sure why this is but that's all that comes up under "files of type" when trying to open video?

Insufficient hard drive space may be at the root of your problem. MOST editing software will first attempt to load the ENTIRE file onto your system (RAM and, if necessary, hard drive)...

I have a 240Gb Raid in stripe mode with 2Gb RAM, plenty of room on the HD. If memory was the problem shouldn't it come up with some sort of error message?

Not necessarily.

By the way, are you able to PLAY the file on your PC?

I haven't used it in a while, but MPEG2CUT should accept MPEG-2, or you can try DGIndex, a variant on MPEG2CUT. VirtualDubMod accepts an MPEG-2 file, but you would have to re-encode it after editing. Another option is MPEG Tools, which is part of TMPGEnc. However, the largest MPEG-2 I have used with these is around 25GB. To avoid this problem next time, you can set the capture software to divide the file into smaller chunks. Hope this helps.

Setarip, yes it plays fine using Media Player. However the timer shows total time 9:29:34 and the clock at the bottom ticks off until it reaches 9:29:34 and then stops but the file keeps playing on hours past this point, presumably to the end.

I just tried the MPEG Tools in TMPGEnc and it does the same thing when trying to edit it shows the range as 00:00:00 to 9:29:34 but when you drag the slider to the end it continues to play beyond the end point.

Strictly as a one-off, and if you have a second PC, one with a tv-in, the other with a tv-out, you could 'capture' the relevent part??
I'd be surprised if there isn't something in freeware/shareware though that would split it.

Demux the movie in tmpgenc mpeg tools (or any other demuxing application).
Load the m2v into Cuttermaran, it will automatically load the mpa.
Edit it.

Thanks reboot...I think this will work, I demuxed the file and it shows the whole enchilada. Between this an IFOedit looks like I can begin a lengthy project...
