    Divx avi to DVD problems..

In the past (2 yrs ago) I remember not having a problem converting divx avi to dvd or vcd. For some reason when I try to convert divx files I get a variety of problems like all black no sound. Or more commonly, a perfect picture with no audio. I have also had a strange problem of converting the file and it somehow adds time to the original runtime. I even had problems of having a good conversion (when checked by media player) but when i go to author, the audio is not compatible.

Here are the specs on the file that i am trying to convert. Is there maybe a plugin for TMPGE that I am missing???

    W 624 pix
    H 352 pix

    Audio:
Bit 286kbps, format Mpeg layer 3

    Video:
    Frame rate: 23 fps
    Data Rate: 135 Kbps
    Sample size 12 bit
    Compression: Xvid

    thanks

Your problem is VBR mp3 audio.
Rip it, and transcode to mp2 in tmpgenc, or ac3 in ffmpeggui or belight.

Converting .AVIs with VBR-MP3 Audio for use with TMPGEnc

Using VirtualDubMOD to Convert "VBR" .MP3 to Uncompressed .WAV

      1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDubMOD (a different program than the standard VirtualDub)

      2) From the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Direct Stream Copy"

      3) From the "Streams" dropdown menu, select "Stream List" - and rightclick on the audio stream, then select "Full Processing Mode" - then click on "OK"

      4) From the "File" dropdown menu, save .AVI with a new filename

pinkchimney, can you raise the directshow under environmental settings tab to 2?

"raise the directshow under environmental settings tab to 2"

Unless there's been a recent change to TMPGEnc of which I'm unaware, your suggestion is only beneficial regarding getting TMPGEnc to recognize an .AC3 audiostream, not .MP3 (Variable Bitrate or otherwise)...
