Problem with AVI to DVD

I have converted several AVI files to DVD using Virtual Dub and TMPGEnc. Everything is great except many of the AVI files show this messege in Virtual Dub : VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 30977 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: 130.2+- 22.5kbps)
I do what it says about decompressing and recompressing using lame mp3. sometimes all works fine afterward somtimes when I try loading the finished file into TMPGEnc the file size has doubled and will not fit on a DVD. Sometimes after reencoding I try to open the new file with virtualdub and it causes virtual dub to crash. ANY HELP PLEASE!

Another problem i'm having is trying to append AVI files together in virtual dub. Sometimes it works great but sometimes it says the video fps is of the two files is different. How do I recode them so they are compatible?

First, be advised that although VirtualDub's "File Information" only reflects framerates to the third decimal place, it actually CHECKS them to four decimal places.

Let's use an example of "File1" showing a framerate of 23.970fps and "File2" showing a framerate of 24.000fps.

1) Open VirtualDub (or VirtualDubMOD)
2) Load "File1"
3) Set BOTH "VIDEO" and "AUDIO" to "Direct Stream Copy"
4) From the "Video" dropdown menu, click on "Framerate" - and select "Change to" and enter 23.9700 (four decimal places) frmaes per second
5) Save with a new filename (e.g. "File1A")

DO NOT EXIT/CLOSE VirtualDub

6) Load "File2" (All required VirtualDub settings are still in place"
7) Save with a new filename (e.g. "File2A")

Exit VirtualDub

You should now have two files with IDENTICAL video framerates, ready for joining/appending (as long as all other video and audio resolutions and rates are also identical)...
