    Load the file into VirtualDub. then, from the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information".

    Post everything listed.

    I'll bet you a tuppence (remember those?) that the audio is either .AC3 ("tag 2000") or VBR (variable bit rate)-MP3 (the audio file will be between 1.5 and 2 times as long as the video file)...

        "compression=unknown(tag2000)" = .AC3 audio format.

        You now are indebted to me for the princely sum of tuppence ;>}

        In order to convert the audio to .WAV format, download both the specially modified VirtualDub v.1.4c-AC3 and the PX3AC3Converter.

        Load the file into VirtualDub v.1.4c-AC3
        From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as WAV"
        Enter a new filename with an AC3 (".AC3") extender - This is critical!

        Note: If you attempt to play this .AC3 file, it will not play properly, but have no fear.

        If I'm correct in assuming that your intention is to eventually replicate the original .AVI but with WAV audio, do the following before exiting from VDub1.4c-AC3:

        Change "Audio" to "No audio"
        Change "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
        Save your silent video with a new name and exit VDub v.1.4c-AC3

        To create the .WAV audio file:
        Load the .AC3 file into the PX3AC3Converter and convert it to a WAV file (which will play perfectly).

        To merge your silent .AVI file with your .WAV audio file:

        Open ANY version of VirtualDub
        Load your silent .AVI file
        From under the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "WAV audio"
        Select your WAV audio file
        Set both "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
        Save your multiplexed .AVI with a new name

        Let us know of your success ;>}

              I was right about the if.
              question,were do I download that version of VDub v.1.4c-AC3,have tried the one from their official site? ie/v1.4c but cant find any reference to -AC3 and output from said version same as,even with the new file extention,
              solution,I could just be thick,as I am still coming to terms with decimilisation never mind digital.

              ps:I think i'll owe you tuppence ha'penny after this

                      It seems the two of you should hop on top of a Grand Piano and do each other. I mean you're getting so cuddly. Is this a personals forum or a tech forum?

                        To jbrice

                        Although hardly worthy of a response:

                        Your remark is rude, crude, immature, and totally uncalled for.
                        Let's not get cranky, or profane, about some lighthearted humor.

                        If I choose to inject a liitle humor into posted responses that provide meaningful information to others (which may or may not have included you - something about converting widescreen to fullscreeen, if I remember correctly), that is, and always will be my prerogative.

                        I'd sincerely believe that an apology should be forthcoming from you, but if you don't agree that this is appropriate then I can only suggest that you limit your postings to:

                        A) technical matters

                        and

                        B) postings directed to you

                          I will limit my responses to technical matters, and I'd appreciate only technical matters being posted.
