avi(divx, vxid), some mpeg(xVCD) to DVD

Hi,

i have some avi(divx, xvid) and some mpeg(xVCD)-files which i want on DVD including a nice menu and perhaps differend audio-sources (german, english) and sometimes two angles.

I already tried some programs but there wasn't any good! I dont like "all-in-one"-tools, i want to do every step by hand: editing 2ch audio to 5ch-AC3 (soundforge only supports 2ch), encoding avi/mpeg to vob including the edited AC3-audio, adding second language-stream, adding sencond/thrid angle, creating my own subtitles, merging all single vob-files to one/two/three, creating menus, etc.

for DVD->AVI im using, smartripper (ripping files), flaskMPEG (encoding to divx), AC3Decode [MPEG2AVI gui] (encoding to wav), VirtualDub (merging files and encoding audio to mp3). Like this steps i want to author my dvds, some steps more wouldn't bad.

Just need a small guide (first use this prog, then this, then this, ....) with special notes (i.e. "dont check this", "bad quality? change this", etc.) and the names of the programs and codecs i need!

1) Use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - You can use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this.

2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish).


**If the combined file size of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink to compress it down to fit on your recordable media.

If I remember, TDA doesn't do multi-angle. Tmpgenc doesn't do anything about 2ch to DD5.1, and tmpgenc plus won't work with AC3 at all.

I also think that you're making things too complicated.
For DVD to (eventually) DVD, why go to avi first?
Rip the DVD to mpg in ReJig. Edit as needed in any NLE.

Sonic Scenearist will accept multi-angle. DVDLab Pro will also, in the next release (not currently).
Steinberg wavelab will do 2ch to (faux) DD5.1 encodes for audio.
