    Tsunami "Easy" product(s) questions.

    Hi.

    Please help!

I'm trying to find out just what is included with the DVD Easy Pack Product...

    1. Why does the website say "Easy Edition" after each of the products? What does "Easy Edition" mean?

    2. Are the "Easy Edition" products in some way limited from what you would get if you purchased each individual product?

(I wish that the website had more specific details.)

When replying, could you please state if you've used the product(s). But, please feel free to reply even if you have not used them.

Oh, one more thing...I understand that one of the minimum system requirements is "The writing tool won't work if it is another OS system."

3a. But, can ANY of the product(s) be used with Win98SE?

3b. And, is there a way to do the writing with WinXP?

    Thank you very much!!

    From the website...

    System requirements:
1)OS: Windows XP or Windows 2000(and NT)
The writing tool won't work if it is another OS system.
2)File system (hard disk format): NTFS is required.
If you are using FAT32, you will be able to handle only files smaller than 4 GB.

Looks like they've simply buundled a few "TMPGEnc" products and included a launcher/"wizard" to facilitate ease of use for novices, as indicated.

ALL of the products can be used under Win98SE (As you already know, the builtin burner of "TMPGEnc DVD Author" requires Win2000 or WinXP)

"If you are using FAT32, you will be able to handle only files smaller than 4 GB."

That's a reference to INDIVIDUAL filesize - NOT a problem when creating the filesets for DVDs...

Please pardon my newbiness--does that mean that Tsunami products in question (running under Win98SE) will allow the creation of the DVD files that you mentioned?

Um, it's my understanding--and I really don't know that much about this stuff--that files that NEED to ultimately be written back to DVD NEED to be a set of .VOB files, each of which is probably going to be less than 4GB. Is that why you're saying that this won't be a problem?

Do you have a suggestion about what program(s) (again, running under Win98SE) might be used to do the actual writing of the DVD?

      Thanks again.

        Yes...

"Do you have a suggestion about what program(s) (again, running under Win98SE) might be used to do the actual writing of the DVD?"

        NERO...

        "Thanks again."

        My pleasure ;>}

I've already tried a demo version of Nero 6. My system kept freezing. Any other suggestions?

            "Any other suggestions?"

No, not from me. I've got NERO on one of my systems that's running Win98SE and I've never had a problem with it.

Did you obtain your demo version from the NERO (formerly Ahead) website, as you should, or elsewhere?

If you have any Roxio or Adaptec software on your system, that could be what's causing difficulty with NERO. Programs from Roxio/Adaptec conflict with NERO. If this is the case, I'd suggest you UNinstall the Roxio/Adaptec software...

I had an Adaptec firewire card in the system. I want to use the firewire for my DVD connection. I'll have to do a more thorough check and see if the drivers are uninstalled. (I believe that they are.)

I currently HAVE an ADS firewire card in my system. It appears to be working okay. The ADS card may have had trouble with Nero also. (And, again, I believe I would have uninstalled the Adaptec drivers once the ADS card was installed.)

I downloaded Nero6 from Nero.com. I didn't get it from a questionable source (in my opinion).

I had a version of Roxio on my system at one point, but, as far as I know, it's completely uninstalled. (I often run CrapCleaner, which does a little more removal/cleanup than the control panel, "Add/Remove programs.")

By the way, at one point, you had suggested Tsunami's DVD authoring program for simple movie scene-cut editing. I tried the trial version and it did not do what I wanted it to...I could only do cut-editing on chapter mark boundaries. I need to be able to cut between chapter marks.

I tried the Tsunami Video encoder Xpress trial tonight and it appears that I was able to do cut-editing as I wanted to. I have not yet tried burning a DVD. I have no audio, but that is because the DVD audio is AC3, and thus not supported by the trial version of Video encoder Xpress. (I don't know how to obtain a trial version of the AC3 plugin, if that's even possible.)

I very much appreciate your suggestions. This weekend, I had as my primary goal to find a program that would let me do the kind of editing I've been trying to do for a long time. A very preliminary trial of the Tsunami software tells me that perhaps I've found a solution. I'm still cautious, however, because of the AC3 piece.

"I could only do cut-editing on chapter mark boundaries."

That's incorrect. "TMPGEnc DVD Author" doesn't limit cutting to chapter marks (unless you've created a chapter for almost every full frame).

Additionally, "TMPGEnc DVD Author" will most certainly allow you to incorporate both the video from a DVD and one of the .AC3 audiostreams from that same DVD...From the link I gave you, "But for DVD Author : if the source is Dolby Digital 5.1ch, you will be able to output it as 5.1 ch, even after editing"

"I very much appreciate your suggestions."

                As always, my pleasure ;>}

                  To troublechuter1

The ac3 plugin is only needed if you want to hear audio while you're editing...As i am a beginner,I have found Dvd author a great tool for authoring and learning how to creating my own menus.....

Buyer beware: The DVD Easy Pack Suite may NOT work under Windows98SE.

The Pegasys website does indeed say that the minimum OS required for TSUNAMI VIDEO ENCODER XPRESS is Windows2000 or Windows XP. (see http://www.tmpg-inc.com/product/tsve.html)

It says the same for DVD Easy Pack Suite (see http://www.tmpg-inc.com/product/deps.html)

It says the same for DVD Author (see http://www.tmpg-inc.com/product/tsda.html)

I just purchased this product. It installed with no problems.

When I went to run the program(s), however, I got the following results:

When I doubleclicked on the TSUNAMI-MPEG DVD EasyPack desktop icon, I received the message, "You cannot use this software on this OS version."

When I doubleclicked VideoEncoderXPressEasyEdition.exe in C:\Program Files\Pegasys Inc\TSUNAMI-MPEG DVD EasyPack\Video Encoder XPress Easy Edition, I received the message, "This software is Microsoft Windows2000?Windows XP or better only."

When I doubleclicked on MediaEditorEasyEdition.exe in C:\Program Files\Pegasys Inc\TSUNAMI-MPEG DVD EasyPack\Media Editor Easy Edition, I received the message, ""This software is Microsoft Windows2000?Windows XP or better only."

I had a feeling that this might happen--that is, probably what Pegasys did is make the "Easy" versions work ONLY with Win2000(which I don't know if that's true) or WinXP(which I can confirm is true), but NOT with Win98SE. But, rather than spend more money on the individual products, I purchased the "bundle."

And now, my suspicion is that *older* versions of these products may work under Win98SE.

Seta, did you say that "ALL of the products can be used under Win98SE (As you already know, the builtin burner of 'TMPGEnc DVD Author' requires Win2000 or WinXP)" because the programs work for you under Windows 98SE? If these programs work for you under Windows 98SE, could you please tell me how you got them to work for you?

Can anyone else shed some light on how these programs work under Win98SE?

                    Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry if I unintentionally misled you. The website ( http://tmpg-inc.com/product/deps_operation.html ) now indicates that the "Easy" package REQUIRES either Win2000 or Win XP - Despite the fact that the full blown version of the primary part of the package, "TMPGEnc DVD Author", runs perfectly well under Win98.

As I said in my initial response to your post here, "Looks like they've simply bundled a few 'TMPGEnc' products and included a launcher/'wizard' to facilitate ease of use for novices, as indicated.

ALL of the products can be used under Win98SE (As you already know, the builtin burner of "TMPGEnc DVD Author" requires Win2000 or WinXP)".

Again, sorry if I inadvertently misled you. I guess the old adage holds true, "Looks aren't everything". (I really don't understand why the publisher would now limit the OS's their products can operate under)...

                        Seta,

Please bear with me as I'd like to ask you a few clarifying questions. I'll split them into different posts so that neither of us gets confused.

Firstly, do you own the current standalone version of DVD Author?

                          Seta,

                          1. Do you own the current standalone version of DVD author?

                          2. What version(s) of DVD Author do you have or have you used?

                          3. Which version(s) of DVD Author works with Windows 98SE?

I have been on a quest to find a video editing program that will suit my needs. I have tried Magix Movie Edit Pro 2004, Sony Movie Studio +DVD, Ulead, Pinnacle Studio 8.4, Easy Media Creator (Roxio) and Nero (6 Ultra, I think), and a couple of others. So far, the only thing that's gotten me close to working the way that I want to work and doing what I want to do has been Pegasys' Tsunami products. And I wouldn't have gotten this far if it wasn't for your feedback.

My search has been quite surprising, to say the least and quite frustrating. I am only trying to find something that will work for me. I'm sure you can understand that it only takes a couple of times of plopping down $100 for software that you've researched, only to take it home, install it, then find out it doesn't work. (Most stores have a no-return-on-opened-box items policy. You break the seal...you've bought it.)

The answers to the above questions would be most helpful.

                          Thank you.
