Adding chapters to a movie

Hi,
I have a movie with no chapters, it's just one title. What this means in practice is that navigating the movie in my DVD Player is slow, I can only use Fast Forward.
Is there anyway easy way to add chapters to the movie?

There is a way, but it's involved because it requires demultiplexing and remultiplexing the VOBs. That's because chapter points can only occur at cell boundaries in the VOB, and these boundaries are set when the streams are multiplexed.
I thought I read somewhere that DVD Remake Pro can do that for you. Otherwise, you can use PgcDemux to demux the streams of the movie PGC, then muxman to remux them together, specifying chapter points where you want them. Then vobblanker to put the new PGC back into the original DVD...

It's not terribly difficult, and in doing it, you'll learn how to use PGCDemux (very easy), muxman (quite easy) and vobblanker (not so easy, but for what you need to do, it should be really easy).

the jeanl hints are very cool but is not clear for me if your "movie" is in .vob format....is?!?!? or is any mpeg burned as "file"(dvd-rom iso)?!?!?
if is .vob,you can use dvdshrink re-author in "set start-end frames" to build your own chapters....if is not .vob (mpeg?) you can use tmpgenc dvdauthor to do dvd structure and load the result in dvdshrink and use re-author, "set start-end frames" to build your own chapters.

Naaah - If you're using "TMPGEnc DVD Author", there's no need to use DVD Shrink, since you can EASILY create Chapters (and a menu) in "TMPGEnc DVD Author"...

You can also use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" if the file(s) is/are in .VOB format...

One question though: with DVDShrink, are the chapter points going to be seamless? No tiny pause between chapters?
Also, you'll lose your menu with Shrink, but I guess if you don't have chapters, there's not much use for a menu, or do you have other stuff, extras etc?

There is no need to use DVD Shrink at all here - unless the poster has need to keep subtitles and multiple audiostreams.

"TMPGEnc DVD Author" will allow the poster to easily create "clean" (no pause) chaptering and, if desired, a menu...

Yes, but TMPGEnc DVD Author isn't free... You can try it for 30 days, but that's it. I hadn't realized that Shrink could offer an alternative to demuxing/remuxing...

TDA will work, so will DVDRMP (both payware). TDA can allow a DVD to be produced that is non-compliant if there is no AC3 track on an NTSC DVD (but probably playable on most players).

jeanl's method is guaranteed 100% and is free.

If it was addressed to me, I don't understand what you mean by DVD Shrink offering "an alternative to demuxing/remuxing..."

Well, I meant that I had forgotten than in reauthor mode, (and in full backup too) DVDShrink recreates and remuxes streams, so you can use Shrink as an automatic demux/remux (if you set compression = 100%, i.e. no compression) then reauthor with DVD shrink is the same as demuxing the streams, then remuxing them...
That's all I meant.
