Audio Problems

When I try to author a movie, what do I put in the target box for audio? I know you're supposed to put the video in the other target box, but I don't know what to put in the audio box. I thought you were supposed to just leave it blank and TMPGEnc DVD Author will handle it from there. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Can you provide some information about the initial Source Material?

What is the file format? (.AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DVD/MPEG-2. .MOV, etc.)

What software and procedures did you use to prepare the file for "TMPGEnc DVD Author"?


If the source material is either .AVI or MPEG:

1) Load the original video file into VirtualDubMOD

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

The original file was an .avi, but I converted it to MPEG-2 with TMPGEnc Plus.

In case you don't understand what I'm talking about, here is a poorly illustrated screenshot of what I mean. So my question is, what do you put in the audio box? Do you somehow have to strip the audio off of the video file?

The original XviD-compressed .AVI contains an .AC3 audiostream. After converting with "TMPGEncPlus" (but BEFORE using "TMPGEnc DVD Author"), did you PLAY the DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file to determine if it contained audio?

Yes, I tested it but it did not contain audio. The video works fine though.

The audiostream is probably in either .AC3 format or Variable Bitrate MPEG Layer 3 (VBR .MP3).

If it proves to be .AC3:

In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to one greater than the highest priority of listed items.. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...


If it proves to be VBR:

Simply use VirtualDubMOD (Different than standard VirtualDub), to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Using VirtualDubMOD to Convert "VBR" .MP3 to Uncompressed .WAV

1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDubMOD (a different program than the standard VirtualDub)

2) From the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Direct Stream Copy"

3) From the "Streams" dropdown menu, select "Stream List" - and rightclick on the audio stream, then select "Full Processing Mode" - then click on "OK". Rightclick on the audiostream again, then select "Compression" and make certain it is set to "No compression (PCM)"

4) From the "File" dropdown menu, save the .AVI with a new filename

you could demux the audio with virtualdubmod(freeware) and shove that in dvd author(ONCE ENCODED). OR you could convert the ac3 to wav with virtualdub(providing the ac3 acm decompressor is installed ) and select THIS as the audio input for tmpgenc plus..

Oh I fixed my resolution problem, but I am still not recieving any audio from my MPEG-2 file. I'm attempting what columbo999 said with stripping the audio off of the file with VirtualDub.

I have changed the environmental settings and tried encoding, but still no audio. I am trying it again to see if I might had made an error. Also, would anyone mind giving me more specific instructions on how to demux the audio using VirtualDubMod? I would really appreciate it.

I finished the encoding, but, still no audio. I have tried saving the audio as a .wav file and tried raising the priority of the DirectShow Multimedia Reader also but the audio still did not come up. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Also, VirtualDubMod looks like it is only associated with video. How would I use it with audio?
