Is there a way to insert music into a motion menu? If so, how? Any help would be appreciated.

Get your music track and mux it in with something like muxman (free). You will need to preserve the subtitles though, as that is where the button shapes are kept. As well, the NAVPacks are where the button commands and sizes are kept, so they need preserving too (or just export them with PgcEdit and re-import them afterwards).

Ok, now I'm a bit confused. Can I not just use like an .mp3 or a .wav in my menu? Muxman doesn't appear to support those file types. Do I have to convert them to AC-3? And are there any good sites with tutorials for Muxman?Comment

Could anyone please help me with this?Comment

Also what do I put as the video source? I don't want the music in the video, just the menu. It doesn't look like muxman supports .VOB, .BUP, or .IFO files. So how do I put it into the menu? Do I have to author the MPEG-2 files and then insert it into the menu?Comment

OK. You need to convert to AC3. No way mp3 or wav is accepted. Use BeSweet with the BeLight interface to do this. Muxman has a few things on the site, but it is trial and error. It works brilliantly though.
See the DVD Shrink FAQs for how to use BeSweet/BeLight. And yes, muxman works on elementary streams. It makes IFOs BUPs and VOBs for you. So you will need either an mpeg source or a BMP.

So I need to put the movie I'm creating as the video source and then add in the AC-3 file?Comment
-
Yes. The DVD specs do not allow a wav or mp3 as audio on a video DVD.
Also, menus must be AC-3 or MPEG2 IIRC. AC-3 (either 2 channel or 5.1) is by far the most prevalent.

What do you mean by the menus need to be AC-3 or MPEG-2 IIRC? I tried doing what you said and encoding the video into individual streams and putting the .m2v file into muxman, but all muxman did was take out the audio and put in the music in place. Here is a capture .jpg of what I am talking about. Does this look right? The audio source is the song I want to put into the menu. Am I supposed to put the audio from the video in there? Also where do I make the menu? How do I put this into DVD Author?

Well, if you want avo.ac3 to play with your video stream, then that is right. This will deliver you the clip with the music you want.
However, you need to mux in the subtitle streams, as I said in my first post - these are where the button shapes are kept (believe it or not). And the button commands and positions need to be exported and re-imported afterwards. Read my first post again, OK?
Good luck.

I can't seem to find a site that has a mirror for PgcEdit. I am not aiming to put the AC-3 file into the video, just the menu.Comment

I also don't see a way to put the music into the menu. Isn't the menu just a bunch of VOBs IFOs and BUPs? I don't believe Muxman supports those file formats.Comment

You may be able to more easily use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" to accomplish this. Per the tutorial at the "Doom9" website, "menu video background can be multiplexed (.mpg files rather than an .m2v and an .mp2/.ac3). Menu background music is possible, but only in conjunction with video background - but you can easily create a video file having only one black frame and your desired menu background music as audio."

Ok I understand what I need to do but I'm not sure how to make a video out of a mp3. Should I import the music in Windows Movie Maker and then just have a black frame? I tried using Ulead MovieFactory 4 but it had awful sound quality.Comment
