Editing DVD made on set top recorder

I have a Panasonic DMR-ES30VS Combo VHS/DVD Recorder. I copied my VHS home movies to a DVD on this unit. When I play this DVD on either of my computer DVD drives, it is unviewable due to mosaic like artifacts. My computer reads the disk as having about 9 gig of data (on a standard 4.7 gb DVD). I can copy the DVD, and the copy will play fine on both of my set top DVD players. I want to edit this DVD on the computer to remove some content. Any ideas on a way to rip this "non-standard" format DVD in order to edit it? DVD shrink won't recognize it. DVD Decrypter does, but I don't know what mode, which files to pick, etc. I prefer a freeware program, but I'll pay a reasonable amount for a commercial program if I can be sure it will do what I need. Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like a task for "TMPGEnc DVD Author". You can obtain a FULLY functional free 30 day trial version of this commercial program at:

When using DVD Decrypter, what mode do I use? What type of files will this produce? My computer drive shows the DVD recorded on the set top unit as having a total of 9+gb of data even though it is a standard DVD. Are some of these "phantom" VOB files? Which ones do I rip? Will TMPGEnc DVD Author read these ripped files? Thanks again.
