Burning With DVD Shrink

Today I was burning The Upside of Anger and when I got to the point of it burning on my blank DVD+R it told me that was the wrong type and it needed a -R or I needed to change settings on the compilation. With my burner you are able to use either one. First time I got this error. How do I change the settings so I can use a +R on this movie?

What brand and speed is the media? It could be that you need a firmware update and that your drive does not yet recognize that brand of media. I had the same kind of problem when I bought some new 16x media. After the firmware update it would read the disc.

Was it an original pressed commercial DVD ? I get this message with Nero when I am trying to do an on the fly copy of a -r DVD to a +r DVD.
