Joining Scenes from different DVD's

Hey guys,
I have a question for you please....I am trying to make a DVD as a birthday gift for someone...I know that they like several different scenes from differnt mob movies, and I have all the movies, just wondering, how can i take a scene from here, and another from there, and make a DVD out of it? if a vob file is lets say 30 minutes of run time, but i only want 5 minutes fom it, how can i get that, and then have 30 clips like that...how do i put it into a DVD?
thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated....

(i guess this would be similar to making a dvd with music videos on it? don't know how to do that either!)

There are a couple of ways. Assuming they are all compliant DVD files:

1. Use DVD Shrink (freeware) in re-author mode - see http://www.dvdshrink.info/compilation.php In re-author mode, you can set the start/end frames and chop things out http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=47260. Or you could do this at the end with VobBlanker (see my sig).

2. Use a commercial program such as DVD Remake Pro (see my sig) or TMPGEnc. DVD Author.

Thanks Blutach. I tried and had success with the DVD-Shrink re-author mode. I was able to get about 31 different scenes from different movies to come into 1 dvd....I didn't mind that I couldn't get the menu to work, but there was no chapters either between the scenes. Is this just a shortfall of DVD-Shrink, or did I overlook anything? I dragged the titles over to the left-hand column, and it burned successfully, but i can't skip forward, I have to fast-forward....

You can chapter skip in re-authored DVDs (the reason they don't in the first place is that they are in dofferent VTSs). Run the macro - DVD Shrink Remote buttons on your re-authored DVD.

In4no! blutach already showed you the link for "Set Start/End Frames" feature in DVD Shrink 3.2 which is perfect for creating chapters. If you follow the guide carefully, in reauthor mode you have to drag-and-drop the first movie (for example: title 1) to the left as you've done before, click the Start/End button, and there you can keep the slider of the Start Frame exactly where it is (beginning of chapter 1) and then move the slider of the End Frame to any where you like (the end of chapter 1). Now comes the interesting part, you again drag-and-drop the same movie (title 1) right below the first title you've dropped before. This time it becomes Title 1(2). Click the Star/End Frames button and you will see that the slider of the Start Frame will be exactly in the same spot where the End Frame's slider of the first title has been before. All you have to do is to move the End Frame's to toward the left to the new place for chapter 2. By doing these steps, you will make all the chapters needed for you first movie. Press the DVD Browser tab, open the second movie, and start the above steps again until you finish all you movie. I don't really know how to explain the procedure correct and in hope that you can visualize to understand

What you describe will work if you're working with a single title when you're retaining the Chapter points, but it won't work with smaller scenes, or when working with multiple titles as In4no indicated in his Original Post.

Unfortunately I don't know of any easy way to create chapter points without Demuxing/Remuxing, jm1647's suggestion to use IFOEdit seems like a good one, and should work.

Hi Taelon - the problem with DVD Shrink in re-author mode is that it does not create a single titleset. They are not chapters, per se, but different titles.

blu, yes of course. That was the point I was trying to make in that I don't think what benbryant proposed would work in this situation.

I think that by lining up all the different titles in a specific order is basically almost the same like creating chapters since you can advance to the next scene with the remote control anyway. I used to make the collections of my favorite karaoke DVDs by first decrypting the original karaoke DVDs to HDD and then open them one by one with DVD Shrink using Open Files and DVD Browser. Using the Start/End Frames, I can choose all the songs I want, move them into different order, and then back them up and burn them into new DVD. By doing this, I can sit and enjoy the whole karaoke DVD or skip any songs with the remote control. The truth is that by using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, I never stop exploring the secret features the programs can provide

You are 99% there and very clear in your methodology!

However, you can only skip to the end of a title if the IFO (and VOB) allows you to skip! Otherwise, as In4no has pointed out, he has to suffer through a fast forward to get to the end of what is effectively a "chapter".

The trouble, Ben, is that when titles are in different titlesets (like in a DVD Shrink re-authored DVD), you must get to the end of the title, execute a command that takes you back to VIDEO_TS.IFO (believe it or not) and then go to the next title.

That's why these little macros help out - they enable you to use the title button or the next button to skip quickly to the end of a title and get into the next one.
