DVD burned onto a CD?

I have a short video (the birth of my best friend's little girl) that I want to share with several members of my family. It's a total of about 10 min and I have a menu and every thing made for it. The expected size of the entire thing is about 250 meg. Will this play on standard dvd players if I burn the DVD structure onto a CD?

Regardless of what format you burn, a CD is a CD, not a DVD. Your DVD player has enough intelligence to decipher between the two. If you are wanting to put it on a CD, make a VCD out of it.

That will only work if your player plays Mini DVD (DVD content on CD).

Very few players can actually do it.

The best way is to make a VCD or SVCD.

Yes, burning onto a CD is not a good idea, unless your players can handle it. Most will play CD Audio.

However, the player looks for a DVD when the tray is closed. If it can't find a DVD, it will shift focus to see if it can read data at CD focus depth. If it can, it then figures that it's got a CD and many just don't expect MPEG2 coming off a CD.
