original DVD: menu buttons are missing on standalone player

    Hi,
I own the Cantus Buranus (Limited Digipak) (CD+DVD)
The DVD is somehow strange, in my standalone player (pioneer) the navigation in the menu is blind. The buttons are invisible.
In my PC and in Yamakawa clone (PC DVD-ROM) the menu buttons are fine, visible as white eagles selected and black eagles activated.

So I tried to change the buttons with a little Tool menuedit, but the results are only seen in PC and Yammi-clone, invisible on the Pioneer.

It seems most cheap players can show the buttons and qualitative better players can't. I can't understand what happened here.

Maybe here's anybody who can help me out?

    Thanks
    Floyd

Attached is a completetely ripped out copy, because the menu makes the problem you can see what I mean and try to fix it.

I'll take a look at the file, I don't have a complete understanding of Menu subpicture streams, but perhaps I'll see something obvious.

I have a couple questions first:

Are you saying the problem with the menus exists in the original DVD?

Are the original menus WS or FS?

What mode are your standalone player and TV set to?

      Yes, I do.

I didn't changed anything but blanking the Titles, so you see an identically copy of the menu structure

Sorry I'm not seeing anything but the background image in both software players, but the buttons do work as you said.
What did you see on your Standalone player?
Unfortunately I can't test it in my standalone, since it won't play RW disks.

The button positions seem fine when I checked it in PGCEdit, the problem must be in the subpicture streams but I can't see it yet. Let me check some references and I'll post back soon.

You're supposed to see the background screen. From here you can navigate to the Audio 5.1 and Stereo menus from where you normally select the Songs (if you activate a song the buttons goes black and jumps to the next song in the menu, this is of course only in the ripped version).

I'm looking forward to your next post.

Are you using a registered or free version of MenuEdit? The free version doesn't have menu background previewing.

Sorry floyd, this is over my head. I've ripped the .sup from the main menu and can see the birds. The button alignment seems fine. I've played with the CLUT's in PGCEdit (but honestly I'm not sure what I'm doing).

I'm not sure what to suggest from here. Try reading this post and thread at doom9, or perhaps 2COOL can see what is wrong. I've done some very basic menu editing and still have alot to learn about this area of authoring.

I couldn't see the menu highlights either onmy JVC standalone but the buttons work though. Now, what exactly did you do in MenuEdit?

                    exactly, the buttons work.
I only tried to fix it with menuedit but I failed.
The attached disc is NOT edited with menuedit. It should be an identical copy without the movies of course.

Where is it? I really need to see your VTS_01_0.VOB. I think I might know what the problem is.

Is the one in your first post edited by MenuEdit?

The attachment in the first post is the one you need, original only ripped.

I failed with menuedit so I think its not important.
I only wanted to say that I tried sthg.

                          floyd,
are you sure that is the original? It doesn't seem so becuase it never jumps to the german LU's, the whole thing looks kinda like a botched re-authoring to me.

Can you re-rip just Video_TS.* and VTS_01_0.* files and attach them here?
