Ok, that's what I figured. Lets try this, create a DVDShrink compilation as I outlined here and download PgcEdit from here (link near bottom of page) and install it.

Also, save a copy of this page "Adding a still frame presentation menu on a DVDShrink reauthored DVD" to your hard drive, it has the instructions you'll be using to create a new menu. (Don't just print it out because you'll need to copy and paste some code in PgcEdit).

good luck, post here or PM me if you run into questions.

heh, don't worry about the time, PgcEdit is an extremely powerful program and really confusing at first glance, the procedure is pretty confusing the first time couple times you do it, but after a while it gets easy.

When I do movie only backups using DVDShrink now, it takes me 2 minutes or less to add the presentation menu

Ok, I got all the way up to step #7, but that's where I get confused.

Sorry, was offline for a while. If you've done the steps up to 7 it should work in your software player right now, the remaining steps are just finishing touches

Step 7, I usually set the Menu type to "Title Menu", all this means is if you hit the "Title" button on your remote it will go to the so-called "Presentation Menu" (the still image that will be shown when you insert the DVD).

So what I do in Step 7 is Highlight the VMGM that says 3b. (which means the menu entry with 3 buttons). Right click on it and select "Set Menu Type" and set it to "Title Menu".

When you've finished you can test it in PGCEdit by using the "Trace Mode" (Ctrl T), click the "Run" button and you should see the static screen. Hit the "Select & Break" button in the preview window and it should step thru the videos until it reaches the end. Depending on the Options you selected, when it reaches the End it will either stop or loop back to the beginning (the presentation menu).

If that works as it should, SAVE the DVD in PGCEdit, Then open the File in Media Player Classic or your Software plaer of choice and verify it operates correctly. Assuming it works, you should be able to burn it in your usual manner with Nero.

I found out something else that may or may not help. Apparently Nero has an option:

This should be used because some set top DVD players can have problems if the DVD is shorter.
If that's the case and you tried burning a DVD R with that option on already, the exercise I put you through may be moot.

But I'm sure you had fun, and perhaps it will come in useful, even if it doesn't help in this particular instance (which I really hope it does, because I'm nearly out of ideas).

I'll look tonight to see if I have that option turned on in Nero.

Ok, I give up. It still doesn't work. Guess I'll just have to play it on the computer if anybody wants to see it.

gh, I was afraid you were going to say that.

I can only think of one more thing to try and perhaps I should have suggested it from the start, but it requires YAT (yet another tool - IfoEdit). It's called "mock strip" you've probably seen the link in blutach's signature. The guide is here, if the problem is a badly authored titleset this procedure should solve the problem.
