I need some help please. Problem with a DVD +RW

We just came back from Mexico, and while we were there we went to a "Swim with the Dolphins" place. At the place we went, they video you while you are swimming with the dolphins, and then burn it to a DVD. On the inside of the video jacket it says they use DVD +RW Technology, and your players should be DVD +RW compatible (we didn't know this until after we bought the DVD). I guess ours aren't. So like I said, we bought the DVD, but couldn't try it until we got home. I tried it today and found out it freezes in one of our players and has no sound in the other. I can however watch it on the computer with no problems at all. I tried ripping and backing it up to a DVD +R, but we still has the same problems. Is there a way to edit it, and fix these problems? I don't want to have to start the computer every time we want to show our friends the video. Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Get hold of DVD Decrypter.

It has a ISO read function that will read the DVD+RW and create a ISO file on the hard disk.

Then put DVD Decrypter into ISO write mode, put a DVD+R in the writer and then load the MDS file in DVD Decrypter that is created at the same time as the ISO file.

Click the big button to start burning.

Its very simple as the program does all the work.

If you get stuck here is a FAQ.

Ok, I tried it, but it didn't work. I must have done something wrong. I'll read the FAQ.

            File Name : VTS_01_0.BUP

He could use DVDFAB Decrypter. Howeve, he would need another burning prog like Nero to burn the files.

I use Nero to burn with. Where do I get DVDFAB?

You initially said you had ripped the files to the computer. And have Nero, so I'll assume you're familiar with burning a DVD with Nero.

                          1) To be DVD compliant the files need to be in a VIDEO_TS folder, there also has to be an AUDIO_TS folder (empty), these should both be in a folder DOLPHIN_DVD or similar. Make sure you have that structure on your hard drive. Here's an illustration with explanation of the files.

                          2) Make sure you can play the compilation in a software player on the computer (select the VIDEO_TS folder or VIDEO_TS.IFO file depending on the player).

                          3) Next, install DVDShrink v3.2 if you don't have it already, and click the Open Files button and select the VIDEO_TS folder. If it loads properly into DVDShrink you should be able to preview the video (with audio).

                          4) If you got this far, select Backup! and "select backup target" select ISO image file. Once you have the ISO image file, you can burn that with Nero in your usual manner.

I do have DVD Shrink. I have backed up about 50 DVD's so far using it and NERO with no problems. The problem I'm having is The orignal DVD, which I paid $50 for, was burned to a DVD+RW and the package says to use a DVD player compatible with DVD+RW. Which I'm guessing mine aren't. The orignal freezes up every minute or so in one of my DVD players, and plays fine in the other, but has no sound. It plays fine on my computer when I back it up using DVD Shrink, but I still have the same problems after I burn it using NERO.

When I back it up using DVD Shrink, I back it up to a folder I created. I then go to Nero and select those files, and burn it. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, but I could be. Maybe I'm not understanding what you guys are telling me to do.

This sound a little different then what I do, so I'll try it again tonight and see what happens.

Groundhog, I get the point that you can't play the R/W disk in your standalones, I have a similar problem here, mine won't even acknowledge the R/W disk (frustrating when you want to test a re-authored title) I"m sure if I'd paid $50 for a DVD I'd be more than simply frustrated.

The points I was trying to make is to see if the ripped copy on your hard drive will load into Shrink, this tells us a couple things. That it was ripped ok, that Shrink considers it compliant enough to process, and you can also view the structure to see if there is any 'unreferenced material'. Also by processing it with Shrink (even though I'm guessing the title doesn't need to be Shrunk) Shrink's output should be more compliant than it was originally.

Burning the ISO or burning the Shrunk files with Nero may not make any difference at all. But I strongly suggest you preview the disk image with a software player before you burn, to make sure it functions as it should.
