I just bought a nice new Canopus capture device. I used to use the Adaptec VideOh, which came with a lite version of Sonic MyDVD (Total garbage). So I needed new software to convert the stream into MPG2. I looked carefully at my Nero 6.6 (which I've been using for burning) and it seemed to have everything I needed. NOT!
While I have the settings at "standard" which is supposedly 29.97 kbps or some such, the file is huge and tells me I can only hold 5 hours on my HD, where it should be more like 15. When I import the Mpeg2 into TMPGE DVD Author, all seems well until I go to output. Then it says that the bitrate has been exceeded and that the video alone is 9800.
The little video and audio boxes at the right in Nero VisionExpress are grayed out. Not sure if I could make more settings there that would help, but they don't seem accessible.
Mostly I think Nero is a bust. What else can I use? I like the idea of encoding to MPG2 on the fly and not having to run through an encoder, which takes like a zillion hours, as I recall. I looked at the other TMPG products, but they are all encoders and don't seem to be set up for capturing.
Someone said they've used Ulead Movie Factory 4 with the Canopus, with good results, but I hate to buy another editing program. I have a million of them and I only like TMPG DVD Author.
I think WIndows XP comes with some kind of movie program. DOes that work well? Nero said you had to use DVD-2 for Windows somethingorother.
What do you all recommend? Thanks for the help!
