    Help inserting DVD Menu

Is it possible to insert a Menu for your DVD?

    What I mean is...

I converted avi, mpegs and divx videos with "winAVI". After the prosses is finished I get a bunch of VOB BUP files. As if I ripped a DVD with "DVDshrink". Usually I would just burn the VOBs and BUPs with Nero, like everyone knows. So in my stand alone if ,let's say, I made a DVD with 5 episodes of some tv show on it. I would have to hit the "Skip/Next" button on my remote. Well that's starting to get to me. I want to make a DVD menu for the files I get from winAVI.

SO that's what I mean by "inserting a menu" to vobs and bups I already have.

I tried Ulead Movie factory but that proggy made my VOBs double the size and it said it didn't recognize the audio. Ac3 I think.

BTW I use winAVI because it is the only proggy ,so far, that doesn't give me sync problem after the video has been converted.

Use TMPGEnc DVD Author (A different program than TMPGEnc) to create a menu for your files.

TMPGEnc DVD Author will let me use the VOB BUP files I have already or do I need to reconvert the avi's with TMPGEnc DVD Author to make a menu?

It should let you use the files you already have.

ok Jmet, It is exactlly what I'm looking for as far as making a menu but the only problem is that , like I was afraid of, the movie is out of sync. The DVD file that I converted with winAVI are perfect but when I use them with TMPGEnc DVD Author, on the final production, they became out of sync

Any Ideas why or know of any other programs I could try besides Studio 9 and Ulead Movie Factory?

that's a problem with winavi, not tmpgenc dvd author. since you've been able to do all this stuff, i suggest you use a REAL video encoder like tmpgenc to convert. i;ve done this about 1000 times and have never seen dvd author create any synch issues whatsoever.

I suggest you thoroughly check your .avi files and make sure they are not the ones that are out of sync. TMPGEnc DVD Author does nothing to the audio streams!

Then I have no idea you guys, I did try to use TMPGEnc but it didn't let me import an avi. It said it was "illegal" I'm positive it is not the AVIs that are out of sync nor is it the vob file I mdae from the AVIs.

What do I need to do? Convert the AVI to mpeg ? ><

TMPGEnc (FREE), TMGEnc 2.5 Plus ($37), TMGEnc 3.0 xPress ($58 New) are all about encoding, multiplexing, & demultiplexing .avi, .mpg, etc. The commercial versions have 14 day free trials.

I think TMPGEnc DVD Author requires .m2v files, which is the default output of the software listed above.

dvd author takes mpeg-2, and mpeg-1 @29fps also

OK I used TMGEnc Plus 2.5 to encode, to a m2v + wav, instead of winAVI and then used DVD Author to make the menu and everything went great. No out of sync pictues. I didn't like the fact that it made the video so huge. A 13MB, 9min movie, avi converted into a 558MB m2v file and a 100MB wav file but oh well as long as it's work.

One more question and I'll leave it at that. Is their a way to add music to the menu using DVD Author?

you didn't lower the bitrate, i'm sure you had it maxed out at 8000kbps. also you chose linear PCM sound (elementary streams). i would have chosen CBR mpeg-1 layer II (mp2) audio, it would be much smaller.

you can have sound but only of the files you use in the motion menu, go to options, help, menu, section for details. it's such a small video clip, i'd do it over, any questions feel free to ask here!
