error with Pearl Harbor

I ripped Pearl Harbor Anniversary Commemorative Edition Regin 1 with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and tried to spilt the 2nd disc into two directories using IFOEdit096. IFOEdit closes without warning and shuts down.

Then I tried using PgcEdit 0.6.0 with blutach "How to burn Dual Layer Disks with PgcEdit" In the process of doing step 1, opening the DVD (scanning VOB files for BOV's), I encountered the following error:

Error loading NAV pack from
"D:\PEARL_HARBOR_DSC2\VIDEO_TS\VTS_06_3.VOB"
at sector 510090 (in file):
VOB file is CSS encoded
Rip the DVD againg with DVD Decrypter.

Any idea what what's causing this and how can I spilt the 2nd disc?

I used to do IfoEdit's split function alot of times in the past with no problems but I feel, with software progression, that doing the split with VobBlanker is much better. If done right, you can actually try to join your split DVD when the time comes that you want to put it on a dual layer blank.

Don't know why your still getting CSS in your ripped files unless you have the option checked in your preference settings to not decrypt. I would set DVD Decrypter's settings to default and try again just in case.

Make sure DVDDecrypter is set to Defaults, rip in FILE mode selecting ALL FILES. If you still have problems with these programs, try cleaning & Polishing the discs.

There is a 2nd angle on Disc 2 that must be giving IfoEdit fits. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish, but if you process Disc 2 with DVD Shrink re-author mode, select Title 1 and backup, you will have a clean version of D2 to work with.

IIRC, this is an incorrect description of the error that has been fixed in 6.1 (to be released soon).

Ignore it if your know there are no buttons over video.

It sounds as if your titleset could do with a mock strip.

Q: How can I tell if I need to perform a Mock Strip with IfoEdit?

A: One of the things which mock stripping does is to correct VOB nav pack pointers. PgcEdit v6.1 or newer can quickly test all the nav pack pointers in a dvd compilation by using the optional PUO plugin.

Once the PUO plugin is installed it can be found in Plugins -> Prohibited User Operations; select "Clear all VOB PUOs". According to r0lZ "Unlike many other tools, this function scans the whole VOB, not only the referenced cells."

Tip: If you want to retain the PUO settings, save them first then restore them after processing.

The PUO plugin can also be used "to find if there are ARccOS dummy sectors in the VOB. During the scanning, if a dummy sector is encountered, an error message will be shown."

The latest version of the PgcEdit plugins can be found in the PgcEdit beta folder

blu, yes i know but it also applies to mock strips. See.. umm.. well maybe it was in a PM I'll look for it and post it.

this program 'fixes' only the PUOs. Nothing else. But, as it has scanned the whole DVD w/o problem, you can assume that it's not a problem with a nav pack pointer, or a missing nav pack.

Which of course means that if it shows an error, then a mock strip would be required to repair the nav pack pointers. hmm, come to think of it I'll reword the question in that post.

Found a way around the error but now I have no audio after using DVD Shrink

Taelon, I checked DVD Decrypter and the default settings were as you stated. Polished and cleaned the discs and ripped disc2 again. No luck...same error when trying to split the DVD with IFOEdit.

I decided to rip disc2 with DVDFabDecrypter and I was able to spilt the disc with IFOEdit with success. There was something DVD Decrypter wasn't able to accomplish but DVDFabDecrypter was!

laserfan, I am trying to copy the entire edition, 2 discs, onto four DVD-5 dics with all the audio, subtitles and extras. The first disc contains the movie only and the second disc has the remainder of the movie plus extras. On each DVD-5 disc I wanted to maintain the menus. I had no problem with disc one and was able to split the DVD-9. However, with disc two, I encountered the problem I described in my original post.

Now that I have split the discs into four directories with IFOEdit, I realized after adding the menus and extras, the file size became greater than 4.7Gb. I decided to use DVD Shrink to compress each directory. For some reason, completing this process, there was no audio after I shrunk each directory. I was playing it back with PowerDVD.

What I am doing wrong?

I did and got these two messages:

There are at least one multiangle (UNSUPPORTED) Cell.
The VTSs containing these cells have been marked as SKIP.

There are at least one ILV Cell.
The VTSs containing these cells have been marked as SKIP.
You can process them, but playback problems can appear
in all PGCs originally containing ILV cells except the first one.

The VTS happens to be the movie title.

Any suggestions?

BTW, thank you everyone for helping me out. I've spent hours on this one movie and had no problems with so many others.

mkey, did you test the compilations before you ran them thru Shrink? Are there multiple audio channels showing in PowerDVD? It sounds to me more like an authoring problem than a Shrink problem.

Yes, I actually played the compilation with PowerDVD and there was no problem in AC3 or DTS 5.1. It was only after cheking the shrunk compliation that I discoved no audio. On the diplay of PowerDVD, it shows AC3 or DTS but no audio can be heard.
