As a new member I would like to thank all in advance for any help. I did look at other posts and could not find a solution (one post listed a VOB file link but the link did not work). My problem is as follows:
I purchased a Panasonic DMR-ES40V to process VHS and Digital 8 tapes to DVD. The unit itself seems to work well as reviews indicated it would (epinion). I can play the DVDs in both the Panasonic, another DVD player, as well as on the pc through PowerDVD.
I have Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 and a Sony DVD RW DRU-510A drive. I am also using imation DVD-R 8X 4.7GB
The Panasonic creates 6 files when going from VHS and from the camcorder to DVD. The DVD does need to be finalized when done copying. After finalizing, the 6 files are: Video_TS.bup VTS_01_0.Bup Video_TS.Ifo VTS_01_0.Ifo Video_TS.VOB and VTS_01_1.vob
With this I notice there are 2 files with 3 different extensions with the exception the VTS - vob file changed its _01_0.Ifo to _01_1.vob. Could the Zero to 1 change be the problem?
In this example, I copied a 21 minute VHS to SP 2HR DVD to produce 2 vob files. The Video_TS.vob is 84 kb and the VTS_01_1.vob is 1,027,440 KB.
When I open up Roxio I try to preview it, but can only see 8 seconds of the VTS file. I burn to DVD and do not have enough room as when I load the Video_TS file it increases the estimated size to 9.832 GB but if I remove the Video TS file (which is only 84kb) it drops the file size down to 1 or 2 gb. When I burn with only the VTS file in Roxio, the dvd only will play the first few 8 seconds. I look on the back of the dvd and the area burnt to is the same area as on the one burned in the Panasonic unit (about 1/3 of the distance from center).
So, then I thought I would save the project as an Image File on the hard disk which has 80 GB of space, but a box pops up saying the project is too large to fit on the disc (I think this is a Roxio DVD Builder error as the 4.7 gb may confusing the program even though 4.7 is a non issue as it is going to the hard drive and not a dvd).
So, with all of this: Are my 6 files ok, or is the _0 to _1 causing a problem?
Is there a straightforward reasonably priced software which will read these files and process to a DVD, an MPEG file, or AVI? I would like to have these movies on our server at work for others to view, but dont want to fill up our server with a couple of videos.
I have spent over a day trying to figure this out and it is killing me.
To simplify my goal - I am trying to copy various media to DVD to create a library of videos (meetings, conferences, etc.) which I seem to have accomplished with the Panasonic unit. I am also trying to put a digital version on our server for others to view without the file being huge. Also, trying to put the video on our server for staff to burn a dvd to in order to take home and watch on their dvd.
Also, if you were not able to tell, I do not know very much about video, so please keep it simple and straightforward.
Thanks again to all. Any help is greatly appreciated.
